The earth is getting greener, but not all plants are created equally.
Increased industrial green vegetation growth across the planet means we are creating contradictory narratives on our planet. This film extract from the larger work ‘Global Greening’, forms part of an ongoing research and critique into the idiosyncrasies afforded by industrially accelerated leaf growth, commercial crops, and misattunement of remote sensing technologies. Watching the commercial expansion of palm oil plantations on Peninsular Malaysia with a plane’s eye view from above, while ‘listening from below’ with the protected but struggling site of Penang National Park, previously known as the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve on Penang Island, the work reveals the disconnect and hierarchies image based Earth observation technologies can create in debates around biodiversity preservation and ecological conservation.
